About Charis Dental

Charis Dental is a modern dental practice in Manhattan built around a thoughtful and personalized approach to care. We believe good dentistry begins with understanding the individual, taking the time to make an accurate diagnosis, and recommending treatment with a clear reason behind it.

Our approach is conservative whenever possible. We value healthy natural tooth structure and consider not only what will solve a problem today, but how each decision may affect the teeth over time.

From preventive care to restorative and cosmetic treatment, our goal is to provide dentistry that feels considered, comfortable, and personal.

Mission

Our mission is to provide thoughtful dental care grounded in precision, transparency, and respect for the natural tooth.

We want our patients to understand their oral health and feel confident in the decisions they make about treatment. That means explaining what we see, discussing appropriate options, and recommending care based on what each patient actually needs.

When treatment is necessary, we aim to preserve healthy tooth structure whenever possible while restoring function, strength, and a natural appearance.

Vision

We believe some of the best dentistry is the dentistry that respects what is already healthy.

Our vision is to create a dental practice where careful diagnosis, conservative treatment, and long term thinking guide every decision. As dentistry continues to evolve, we remain committed to techniques and materials that allow us to treat teeth with greater precision while preserving their natural structure whenever possible.

We hope to build lasting relationships with patients who value understanding their care and taking a thoughtful approach to their oral health.

Dr. Hye Young Shin, DDS

Dr. Hye Young Shin is the founder of Charis Dental and a graduate of the New York University College of Dentistry. Her experience in comprehensive, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry has shaped an approach centered on careful diagnosis, precise treatment, and the long-term health of natural teeth.

Her restorative philosophy is influenced by minimally invasive and biomimetic dentistry, with an emphasis on preserving healthy tooth structure whenever possible. She incorporates modern adhesive and bonded restorative techniques to restore function, strength, and natural aesthetics while avoiding unnecessary treatment.

Dr. Shin is currently an active participant in the NYU Implant Fellowship Program, where she continues advanced training in implant dentistry and surgical treatment planning. She is also pursuing advanced orthodontic education through the United States Dental Institute (USDI) Orthodontic Fellowship Program, with training in orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, biomechanics, and clear aligner therapy.

Her clinical interests include restorative and cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, orthodontics and clear aligner therapy, TMJ management, and therapeutic Botox for orofacial pain and muscle-related conditions.

She is a certified Invisalign provider, a member of the American Academy of Clear Aligners, and has completed advanced Botox training at New York University.

Dr. Shin believes patients should understand the reasoning behind their treatment recommendations. She takes the time to listen, explain her findings, and discuss appropriate options without making the process feel rushed.

For Dr. Shin, good dentistry is not about doing the most treatment, but knowing when to treat, how much to treat, and when preserving what is already healthy is the better choice.
