When Tooth Pain Is More Than Just a Root Canal

When Tooth Pain Is More Than Just a Root Canal

A patient recently visited our office with symptoms consistent with a tooth requiring root canal treatment. After a thorough examination and radiographic evaluation, we proceeded with treatment to address the source of infection and preserve the natural tooth.

Root canal therapy is often associated with pain, but modern endodontic treatment is designed to eliminate infection, relieve discomfort, and help patients keep their natural teeth for many years. Saving a natural tooth is almost always preferable to extraction whenever possible.

What made this case particularly important was the reminder that dental care is about more than treating a single tooth. During the comprehensive evaluation, we also identified other oral health concerns that required attention and discussion with the patient. Findings like these can sometimes go unnoticed because they develop gradually and may not cause immediate symptoms.

Successful dentistry is not just about treating the tooth that hurts—it's about understanding the overall health of the mouth and creating a plan that supports long-term success.

At Charis Dental, every treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation so we can address both the immediate problem and the factors that may affect your oral health in the future.
